Impact Healthcare's Conservative Chronic Pain Management Program is the first of its kind in the Simcoe County.

Chronic, also termed "persistent" pain, affects an estimated 20% of the population world-wide. Chronic pain can be defined as a painful experience that persists or recurs for longer than 3 months. There are often multiple factors that play into a painful experience that may not be addressed with conventional care.

Our program aims to target the various factors that play a role in your pain experience including: biological, psychological, socio-economic and lifestyle factors. You will undergo an extensive initial assessment with Dr. Dave Emond that aims to rule out any significant medical concerns, set realistic personal expectations for returning to activities that may be difficult to perform, and determine which avenues may be best suited to reach these goals.

Dr. Dave Emond who is spearheading this program has a keen interest in working with patients with chronic pain. This program is a team effort that emphasizes education, active approaches to care, and self-management strategies. These may include addressing sleep, nutrition, social concerns, physical activity and pain coping strategies. The program will also emphasize collaboration between your entire medical team - your family physician, specialists, our clinicians onsite, and cognitive behavioural therapists.

Although it takes time and diligence to address persistent pain, our biggest goal is to get you back to doing the things you love, and not letting your pain stand in your way!
